Minnow <The problem I see is in convincing AMD to spend more on advertising. I believe AMD needs to be convinced to spend more on advertising. Do we disagree on this?>

Oh h*ll no! I'm in a position where I can no longer be too vocal on the subject (conflicts & affiliations). I couldn't urge you enough to send an email/letter with your rationale to IR. See if you can get a response.

I am still doing what I can on my end. I feel pretty strongly regarding the subject. They are in a prime position right now and need to capitalize on it. IMHO - in roundabout ways - it would help them enter the business arena also.

minnow68...re:AMD needs to advertise more.

minnow68, I believed the same thing back in late summer of last year. I don't know if it had any impact but here (below)is a copy of an e-mail I sent to Toni Beckham in August of last year. Then by midway thru the football season they started running ads. A coincidence? Probably, but maybe if we all started writing Toni en masse, maybe we could get something going again. If you're interested, I'll see if I can dig up Toni's response.

Dear Toni Beckham:

I have been following AMD for a number of years and have been rooting for your company for some time. Advanced Micro Devices has been the only thing keeping Intel honest and from charging even more exorbitant prices than they already do. The Athlon finally brings AMD to the forefront and will definitely put some pressure on Intel (their recent price drop announcements will attest to that).

Toni, I do not know if you are the proper authority to contact about this, but I do have some suggestions for your company now that you currently own the fastest processors on the block. Please let whoever is in charge of advertising know that they have to hit Intel hard and take care of a golden opportunity for AMD. The public has to become informed that "Intel Inside" no longer means the fastest processor inside.

Also, Toni, even though I am not an investor at the moment I may change that in the not too distant future. I also have some great ideas for an advertising campaign for AMD, but even if you don't take me seriously about my advertising ideas, please get you company to do something. I would love to see the Athlon capture 25% or more of the market.

Great Luck
Edward Placencio

I then became an investor by September.

Regards
Ed P.

Mike,

AMD needs to advertise more. I believe you agree with this.

I think AMD, being the Chimpzilla, needs to be smart about advertising. Here is one example of Intel being smart: There is a computer store downtown Manhattan - the financial district, only a few blocks from Wall Street. Intel pumped a lot of advertising money into this store to showcase Intel products. I don't think Intel spent a lot of money on this. If AMD could somehow out-bid Intel, and buy the same exposure, it would be money well spent.

AMD cannot defeat Intel head on. Intel marketing budget may be higher than AMD revenue. Any kind of marketing campaign will have to be a guerilla campaign.
