Bulls, yes, I have heard of Interdigital. They have got some of the world's best lawyers who have done a brilliant job over the years. I recall the case where QUALCOMM decided they would avoid a case and settle with Interdigital by paying them a few $$million. I believe Interdigital invented CDMA even before L M Ericsson, who I believe invented CDMA way back in 1890.

I imagine that Nokia and Interdigital will bring a case at some time to argue that QUALCOMM is intruding on Interdigital and Nokia patents in regard to 3G CDMA of whatever form.

That should hold things up for at least a few weeks, which is all Nokia needs to delay 3G to continue their vast profits from GSM and justify the costs of litigation. But they might find they are also held up with their own 3G developments by their own actions and their 3G profits might be vastly larger than their GSM profits. So it's a bit of a mess they are creating. But they haven't done that yet and they might simply sign up with Q! for 3G licences and forget the silly Interdigital game.

I dare say the new ex-Iridium guy will make a great success of Interdigital.

Personally, I have never owned and would not want to own Interdigital shares. But I'm sure there are some people who are proud owners. I think they are taking a very big risk, but let's face it, I might even be biased and even if unbiased, wouldn't have a clue what's going on with the great technology created by Interdigital's lawyers. With lawyers as amazing as those who run Interdigital, I'm sure they can achieve anything!

If you like, you can quote the relevant 10K section and post it here Subject 30581 [I think most readers of this thread won't be very interested].

Bulls(ironic name):

Here is every mention of Interdigital in the QCOM 10-K. I don't see any mention of wideband CDMA or relicense. Once again, more crap from IDC-o-philes.

Ericsson, Motorola and InterDigital have each advised the TIA that they
hold patent rights in technology embodied in IS-95. Lucent and OKI Electric have
claimed patent rights in IS-96. In accordance with TIA guidelines, each company
has confirmed to the TIA that it is willing to grant licenses under its rights
on reasonable and nondiscriminatory terms. In connection with the settlement and
dismissal of the Company's patent litigation with InterDigital, the Company
received, among other rights, a fully-paid, royalty free license

to use and to sublicense the use of those patents claimed by InterDigital to be
essential to IS-95. If the Company and other product manufacturers are required
to obtain additional licenses and/or pay royalties to one or more patent
holders, this could have a material adverse effect on the commercial
implementation of the Company's CDMA technology.
