These numbers are based on fallacies IMO. It seems that that the only figures that really matter are:1) Production 2)Consumption eg for industrial use - or for the purchase of new jewelry 3)New production purchased for saving including new gold purchased by banks of all stripes.

All of the rest is presented in a one sided way. Or, put it this way - the whole story isn't shown. If scrap including jewelry is sold it is also purchased. If the CBs sell the gold it is also purchased. In other words existing gold merely changes hands. But only one side of the ledger entry is considered? Or am I missing something?

I have the numbers for the last decade or so.
First list is ounces, second metric tonnes

Year Total Jewelry

Total 1999 demand is estimated down at 4065mt/130.7moz,
but I don't have the exact jewelry number (it is down)

I have been meaning to fill out my entire supply/demand
table ( goldsheet.simplenet.com )
for the last 30 years, but have never got around to it.
After spending hours going through old dusty Bureau of
Mines Minerals Yearbooks back to 1970 to complete the
primary mine production, I haven't found the ambition to
get the rest. Another item on my list of things to do !
