Sen. Smith Tells KSFO's Mike Savage of Surprise
at Andrews AFB

Senator Bob Smith was interviewed by phone on
Mike Savage's #1 rated show on San Francisco's
KSFO.

Smith told Mike he was shocked when he arrived
at Andrews Air Force Base and was told -- though
he was a U.S. Senator -- he was barred from
entering the base.

He was also surprised when he was greeted at
Andrews -- not by military officials who alone
should have jurisdiction at the base -- but
armed federal marshalls who explained they were
in charge at Andrews.

Sounds like shades of the class movie Seven
Days in May.

Savage quickly explained to his audience what
you have is a "putative coup."

By that, Savage said, federal officers
demonstrated on the raid of Elian's home -- and
the efforts to bar Smith from the air base --
that their loyalty is not to the Constitution
but to the President himself.

Will the Republicans do anything about the
massive abuse of power?

Smith said, "If they had cajones they would, but
don't hold your breath Michael."

Good advice.

Zoltan,
The scariest part of this monstrous activity is the enormous number of people that go along with it. The rights of the American people and the fundamentals of the Constitution are loosing value and strength. U.S. Senators may not be military personnel but they do represent the American people. We have a right to know what they are doing.
I heard the cameraman that took the infamous photo give his testimony and it is not very pretty. He said they were yelling "stand back or I will blow your f'ing brains out".
Then Elian looked at him and asked in Spanish "what is happening" with terror in his face. He told him no one is going to hurt you Elian as they were crashing the house to pieces.
This boy had been through so much already was this a necessary trauma. What would his mother have wanted for this boy? This family may be considering the mothers dying wish for her son. So at least we could give her son the right to a fair judicial process.
Honestly I think it is a scare tactic and a pride issue for Clinton. Control with terror and show the world who is the boss here. What a sad weak leadership.
