Jim, Why don't you mull over the cache design problems analyzed in the ACEHARDWARE article. I have mentioned quite a few times on this thread (and others) that Athlon scores lower on benchmarks than PIII, because Athlon does not currently have an onboard L2 cache- resulting in longer latency for L2 hits. T-Bird (which is currently in production) corrects this performance issue. I look forward to seeing T-Bird/DDR benchmarks, which will likely be significantly faster than PIII/DRDRAM benchmarks.
