If you look at the ACE article you will see that there is no reason to buy an Athlon at 1 GHZ and pay the premium because there is little performance improvement over 800 MHZ.

Some people pay the premium to get 1 GHz Athlon, others pay to it get RDRAM, in both cases there is a little performance improvement. At least AMD gets to keep the premium. How much of the premium of RDRAM goes to Rambus' bottom line?
