Greg: Once again, of course DDI wants all the spectrum it can get. That is simple. The bid for new spectrum has nothing at all to do with the use of the current spectrum.

Clearly DDI does best with CDMA 2000 (MC) in the current spectrum regardless of the flavor of CDMA in the new. There is no reason whatsoever to close down the use of CDMA in its most advanced from for the current spectrum.

And to be clear, the path is IS 95B now, (faster than DoCoMo's data rate it proposed a year from now), 1XRTT (which is phase one of CDMA 2000) this year or early next. HDR soon thereafter. And the the upgrade to 3XRTT comes next. Why would DDI reject that? There is simply no reason to not upgrade that way in current spectrum. So it will happen. That is what I am talking about - a path through the first phase of CDMA 2000 (MC) through to the second phase of CDMA 2000 (MC) in the current spectrum. Why not? All the economic incentives are there.

The new spectrum is a different case entirely - frosting on the cake - when it comes into use. The Q will be best off if that spectrum is not limited to one flavor. What some are missing is that if one is good for the Q (WCDMA), two are better - DS and MC. Why not go for both? Best of worlds for the Q, especially for roaming purposes in that new spectrum.

Best.
