Vince re <<Willy sampling? What do the chip guys think? Next stage of the FUD campaign or indication of earlier launch?>>

I believe it. It is consistent with Intel shipping VERY small quantities this year and no real volume till middle of next year.

RE:"Willy sampling? What do the chip guys think? Next stage of the FUD campaign or indication of earlier launch?"

I think it's more Intel BS...
I suspect this is just another Intel stall tactic...as in
"Just wait until you see our new super duper chip, don't waste your efforts on Athlon because Willy is just around the corner."
So they get a few Willys and let certain OEMS see them run...under controlled conditions I'm sure. This groveling is sad.
Surely Intel wants to rush Willy out ASAP but this just opens another can of worms. Bugs, bugs, and more bugs not to mention a slow ramp and expensive RAMBUS...whose stock jumps every time an article comes out to the effect they haven't yet been dumped by Intel...

AMD is about ready to take a real bite out of Intels ego...

Vince, on this on at least the Register has a somewhat checkered record, they had Willy sampling last year, Nov. I think. Ok, I looked it up, the story was from Oct., talking about a Dec. "launch". That would have even stretched the current Intelese definition of "launch" quite a bit. theregister.co.uk

I picked up the link from the Register "embarassing stories of the year" paged, so they were a bit chagrined. Today's story, on the other hand, is almost credible, Gelsinger didn't use the "launch" word.

Cheers, Dan.
