More good news for SUNW - Sun Microsystems Inc (SUNW) Andersen Consulting, SUN MICROSYSTEMS INC and iPlanet E-commerce Solutions on Tuesday said they signed a deal to form a joint venture that will provide electronic purchasing services for businesses. The companies said in a statement the venture, which has not yet been named, will buy up to $300 million worth of equipment and services from iPlanet and Sun. The venture, which is scheduled to be fully operational by the fall, will be able to help customers cut purchasing costs by as much as 50 percent, the companies said. Andersen unit AC Venture will take an undisclosed equity stake in the new venture. Sun Microsystems Inc (SUNW) Israeli telecoms equipment firm BATM Advanced Communications Plc said it entered a proposed strategic relationship with SUN MICROSYSTEMS INC. BATM said it had entered into a memorandum of understanding with Sun, which makes powerful computer servers to run Web sites. BATM said the memorandum states that the two companies "intend to negotiate agreements, including mutual product supply and technology co-operation." BATM added that Sun will also make a minority equity investment in BATM of about 6.1 million pounds, and will buy 160,123 new ordinary shares of BATM at a purchase price of 38.12 pounds per share.
