Yeah. This country sucks. What a terrible place to do business. I have never seen so much anti-capitalism. I am moving my start-up to Japan -- I am sure there will be no barriers to entry there!

Gee thanks

<g>

I know I am right.... Only a rich society , that is on top of the "economic" world can "afford" to "go after" it's own national champions...

antitrust law is SO open to interpretation, that the lawyers can "allow" it for some companies and disallow it for others..

The "arbitrairiness" of the whole issue is what get's me, and if SUNW or any other national champion ever comes into a position where it's products are dominant, that could very well be the new "target"

An "american" phenomenon indeed....

Also, a case could be made that Microsoft was on the "downtrend" before this case, with rich profits in it's OS business (and applications), but with everyone moving to an ASP and "thin-client" model, it was becoming like IBM, an aging and less and less dominant giant...

1- Web-applicances, it's a has-been, despite 3 separate efforts. Palm and Psion is the leader..

2- Server-centric computing, SUNW & HP are the leaders and growing. Win 2K is good, but won't take over from fault-tolerant Unix.

3- Internet browser, now a leader, but who cares ? No money in it...

Apart from OS & applications, not a threat to the vibrant computer industry in america, with thin clients, servers and handheld internet devices.

Seems like just a massive waste of time and money, with "psychological" effects that are there but hard to measure on the NasDaq market.

JMO

Take care Dale
Jean

Re: "Right on Jean... It's an American phenomenon" - Dale, Jean is a Canadian. Where you 'define' idiocy, Canadians want to nationalize it. --- Anyway, could you dim wits please take this 'DoJ, Killer of Commerce' discussion to a more appropriate forum, such as the MSFT thread? -JCJ

Dale J.

That's one reason the USA has had the world's largest
and most robust economy since World War I.

We 'yanks' just don't cotton to trusts. It's been that
way since the early 20th century. We like to promote
competition and keep capitalism alive and well.

If MSFT had been a European company who's to say that
the British, French, or German government wouldn't have
nationalized it. When you guys talk about government
intrusion into capitalist enterprise, please DON'T use Europe as a model of laissez-faire discretion.

"I GUARANTEE you that you would NEVER have seen France, Germany, the UK or any other major power (including Japan) attack "it's" own Microsoft, like you yanks just did."

well Jean, Maybe that's why America is the economic model of the world rather than Germany or Japan -(and France...please!) granted im a sucker for an 8 week vacation and Catherine Deneuve but Economic Advice would be last on my list of things to get from our friends in Europe and Asia at this point.
