I will often set a stop this wide. This will usually be a result of one of two factors: Either you are dealing with a very volatile, high priced stock which needs lots of room, OR you are involved in a swing trade which will last over a few days and don't want to be easily shaken out, OR both.

Certainly a six point stop is too wide IMO for people doing scalping or very short term trading of 5-15 minutes, etc.
