>>Also lacking is any reference to columnists supporting Reno. Takes longer to spin up lies I guess.<<

Politicians, talk show participants, and message board posters often express opinions first and think later, if at all. Columnists, on the other hand, are generally inclined to be thoughtful about what they write. The delay may be simply the complexity of the technical issues.

Earlier today a discussion on Court TV touched on some of the complexity. Arlen Specter was talking about his meeting this morning with Janet Reno. Specter and the host, Catherine Crier were discussing, for example, DoJ's need for a court order to remove Elian. A part of that issue was about the difference between parole and custody. The Miami family, it seems, never had "custody" of Elian; Elian was "paroled" to them by INS. Once Juan Miguel was here to assume custody, DoJ revoked the parole. Thus parole is an INS administrative matter, not a judicial one. They didn't get far enough to convey whether or not that's all there is to it or how issues about jurisdiction play. I expect it will take the experts quite a while to sort this out. Then we may see some columnist write it up in terms that I can get my head around. I imagine there will be several thousand opinions posted here by then.
