Lexar's Launch at Grand Central

I am happy for Lexar and their OEM agreements. The Microsoft promotion is nowhere to be found on the Microsoft website, so I consider it a non-event, really. They have, however, penned OEM agreements with Nikon and Kodak in the recent past. We have posted here to that effect.

Eli stated earlier that competing with other flash manufacturers is not something they consider useful or fruitful. SanDisk is striving to be the lowest cost, highest quality producer of CF cards and other flash memory products within the SanDisk family. Attention to these priorities will bring in customers, as will the SanDisk brand name as a mark of excellence. And as the inventor of CompactFlash they are also entitled to licensing fees from those who utilize the SanDisk IP in their products. That includes Lexar Media. To hamper Lexar's productivity through a product injunction doesn't help anyone and it goes counter-current to the original creation of the CFA. SanDisk is giving ample time and opportunity for Lexar to realize this. Their (Lexar's) stubborness is the only thing preventing an amicable solution, IMHO.

I repeat...

"The goals of the CFA are to promote and encourage the worldwide adoption of CompactFlash technology as an open industry standard. The Association's primary objectives are to drive alternate-source availability; to drive acceptance of the CF specification as an industry standard across platforms and markets internationally; to ensure compatibility for users of CF products, and to evolve the approved CF standard over time while ensuring backward compatibility."

SanDisk is a world-class operation. It is about time they are treated with a modicum of respect by Lexar. Lexar continues to request being wrestled to the mat and being placed in a submission hold. Now who really benefits from that exercise?
