<It does not sound as if you need to upgrade to anything now, as long as you're happy with the performance. Why bother>

My guess is that I would like to make a justification for a possible upgrade (need to know the qualitative pickup in speed and performance, not just cold, hard quantitative benchmark numbers). Possible reasons for me to upgrade:

1) My computer crashes at very regular intervals - currently using Windows 95 OS. Could be mistaken, but would love the opportunity to do a clean re-install of every single program and driver, using a new OS - perhaps Windows 2000 or Windows 98 second edition (soon to be Millennium edition). Maybe wishful thinking, but perhaps the frequency of crashes will diminish.

2) No USB support - dumb PC can't handle more than a measly two peripheral devices - one on parallel and one on serial. Connecting (or changing) additional devices makes the stupid OS crash because of garbage files on setup files that no mortal can decipher or clean up reliably.

Would like to add more devices, such as a scanner, SmartCard reader for digital camera, USB Zip Drive, etc.

3) Will be running broadband through either ADSL or cable soon. Wondering if the extra processing requirements will sufficiently tax my current CPU to warrant an upgrade

4) Will be running four (yes, four) 14" LCD panel screens simultaneously. More browser windows, more Bloomberg windows. May need extra CPU processing ability

5) Biggest reason, perhaps, would be the desire to use some Rambus memory in my PC (*IF* it makes a significant difference). Already have Rambus memory through my Nintendo 64 machine and my Sony Playstation 2 machine. Cree Research (CREE) makes the LEDs on the Playstation 2 as well as my Nokia 8850 phone - I love CREE !
