TXN is a no-brainer............DALLAS (Apr. 24, 2000) - The industry's first portfolio of digital signal processor (DSP) -based customer premise (CPE) asymmetric digital subscriber line (ADSL) chipsets to meet a complete range of end-to-end equipment needs was announced today by Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) (NYSE: TXN). Featuring the smallest ADSL CPE form factors, the new chipsets are based on a common scalable and highly integrated architecture designed to drive peripheral component interconnect (PCI), universal serial bus (USB), hybrid PCI ADSL/analog modem and routing and bridging applications. These capabilities, based on TI's world-leading programmable DSP and analog technologies, enable PC, modem and Internet appliance manufacturers to offer users broadband connectivity via the device of their choice whether they prefer DSL-ready desktop PCs, stand-alone digital modems, set-top boxes, residential gateways and more. (See: ti.com

"The strength of TI's portfolio is that it offers a common scalable architecture, which provides OEMs with the flexibility to upgrade solutions as standards change and new features are added, at significant cost savings," said Kimberly Funasaki, senior research analyst of International Data Corporation (IDC). "Additionally, the breadth of its portfolio demonstrates TI's leadership in the ADSL market, as it continues to push the envelope in terms of form factor and chip integration."

Complete Chipset Portfolio Supports ADSL CPE Market

The TI ADSL chipsets offer designers a high-level of integration, significantly reducing the size, power, weight and total cost of ownership of CPE modems. The programmability offered by TI's DSP-based chipsets enables new services such as voice to be added with a simple software download, allowing manufacturers to achieve maximum product differentiation. To get end products to market quickly and simplify installation, TI's ADSL chipsets come complete with Windows? Hardware Quality Labs (WHQL) certification, Windows drivers, provisioning software and user diagnostics.
