I just finished listening to the conference call. When this issue was brought up, JDSU said that they are working with a number of businesses on mfg automation. It is a big deal to them. They are also doing a lot in house.

Yes, but I think in the context they were referring to reengineering efforts more so than suppliers of equipment, but I could be misreading his response.

Sounds like a lot of changes going on to lower unit costs but you would be misled to think that there was one major mfg of their automation systems.

New components being created all the time and customers demands always changing. Not like a printing plant or something where you buy one machine and it is good for 20 years.


Exactly - that's why I was thinking whoever the suppliers are will be selling a lot of equipment in the coming years.

Although they didn't revise GM guidance up or down, reading between the lines, it sounds to me like they are focused on increasing per share earnings. If you can lower COGS, keep your other costs in line, and continue to raise revenues at incredible percentages, magic things happen to the bottom line.
