Hello rrufff,

What I always find interesting is how stupid these folks are with respect to Internet protocols and the ability to track people.

1. Silicon Investor is not going to refuse a request by law enforcement to turn over their web records. These, due to the nature of TCP, provide a detailed log of the IP addresses from which every post has been made. (I have written programs to process these logs ... ;-)

2. Based on the IP Address, it is simple for the law enforcement community to identify the ISP from which the web posts were made. (I've written programs which do this type of tracing ... it's simple ...)

3. The ISP is not going to refuse the law enforcement community access to their RADIUS (or equivelant) logs, which indicate what IP Address was given to was user account at what time and date (based on the SI logs) on which dial-in access port (or fixed address location). (I am currently working on a project related to this for other security research.)

4. The telco, whose lines were used to dial the access at the ISP, is not going to refuse law enforcement access to the information on where the call was placed from. Oops ... and that leads them to the person/people.

It's kinda silly, but it's simple ... I could tell you some stories about some of the tracing that we have done, and some of the surprised people when we accomplished that! ;-)

Obviously there are a number of steps, and it currently takes time ... but there are a number of mechanisms that can be used to accelerate this process.

Of course, if the posters were *really* good, they might know some ways to deal with this by using some good techniques ... but I'm not sure if they are that good ... I guess that we'll see!

P.S. I can't wait to see how Wolff answers the questions that Wolff sent him! My personal feeling is that Wolff won't even reply to them, since he never answers anyones questions. It appears that Wolff is now agreeing with us and this is causing some conflicts, so Wolff is trying to attack Wolff over some of his comments!
