<<So I have this abiding hunch, and I am interested in dialog on how to equitably materialize this hunch, if that can even be done.>>

Now be patient with me here. Your "Abiding Hunch" is a very sexy target. I want you to know that I am honestly not trying to convert you or win your soul or anything. But, here you are; you've got this gut feeling about something that seems "right." I get it. So if you were a salesman you would be looking for the product or service that would be beneficial for everyone and that is the thing you would take to market. Same kind of hunch.

So your hunch is that there should be a body of literature that you are so convinced by that you could label it good for everybody. OK, so you can start by defining them as "The classics." Your assumption that the message(s) the author presents are harmless, and you already rejected my proposal that the processes of literary analysis are whats important. So, you are trying to establish a "cultural anchor" through literature. My question then is, what is this anchor made of?
