Compaq Executives Confident on Q2, Full Year 2000

CLEVELAND (Reuters) - Compaq Computer Corp. (NYSE:CPQ - news) executives on Tuesday said
they were confident about meeting earnings and revenue projections for the second quarter and the full
year, as the company emerged from what they called a difficult first quarter in which the computer
maker met expectations despite flat revenues.

``We are absolutely comfortable with estimates for the total year from both a revenue and a profitability
point of view,'' said Compaq President and Chief Executive Michael Capellas.

He added there would be some expenses for a major new brand
advertising campaign and a product transition tied to the introduction
next month of the company's powerful new Wildfire computers based
on Compaq's Alpha chips.

``Overall, we have a very positive outlook for the second quarter and
the second half,'' said Jesse Greene, the company's new chief financial officer.

Greene said he expects second quarter gross margins of between 22.5 and 23.5 percent, and said he
was comfortable with revenue projections for a sequential second quarter rise to $10.2 billion from $9.5
billion.

The executives were speaking in a conference call with analysts and investors, following the release of
the Houston-based computer maker's first quarter results.
