US stocks power higher on gain in telecom, technology stocks New York--April
25--The Nasdaq composite index posted its second-largest point rise ever,
rebounding from three straight sessions of losses, on bargain-hunting in
beaten-down technology stocks. The Dow Jones industrials also advanced as
blue-chip technology heavyweights IBM Corp. (IBM) and Hewlett-Packard Corp.
(HWP) rose sharply. Strong gains in Intel Corp. (INTC) and Microsoft Corp.
(MSFT) helped the Nasdaq jump 228 points, or 6.57%, to 3711 while the Dow gained
218 points, or 2.01%, to 11,124. (Story .1300)

Compaq shares soars as Q1 earnings match estimates Houston--April 25--Shares of
Compaq Computer Corp. (CPQ) rallied in late trading after the world's biggest
maker of personal computers posted first-quarter earnings that matched
expectations despite sluggish revenue growth. The company reported net income of
$325 million, or 19 cents a share, compared with $281 million, or 16 cents a
share, in the year-earlier period. Compaq shares finished up $3.50 or 13.33% at
$29.75. (Story .7870)
