Gadzoox Networks Adds Fabric Services to Capellix Switch

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 27, 2000--

Capellix Becomes Industry's First Switch to Combine Optimized Loop
Switching for Data Centers and Fabric Services for Creating a SAN
Backbone

Gadzoox Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: ZOOX), a leading provider of SAN (storage area network) products, today announced the
addition of fabric services to its Capellix 3000 modular SAN switch. For users seeking SAN switching solutions that provide
performance and scalability for servers and storage while also offering backbone services for the interconnection of multiple
SAN installations, Capellix now provides a unique blend of optimized switching capabilities in a single device. Based on its
modular design, 32-port capacity, and 28-gigabit per second switching engine, the Capellix 3000 modular SAN switch
enables users to build and grow enterprise SANs.

"Practical implementations of Fibre Channel SANs today are in isolated, functional islands which call for switched loop
technology. To date, large scale fabric implementations still represent a small segment of the overall market. As people
begin to connect these independent "islands", they will need a high speed backbone, and that is where fabric shines." says
Steve Duplessie, of the storage market research firm the Enterprise Storage Group. "We are glad to see that Gadzoox will
provide it's loop switch customers the option of creating fabric switches from the same box, allowing an easy migration as
backbones start to be implemented. In the interim, those customers who continue to require loop switching don't have to pay
the price for unneeded functionality, but have the piece of mind to know they can always add it later on. Fabric based
switches can be more expensive and difficult to implement in SANs where no fabric is required."

The deployment of SANs are being driven by specific business applications needs such as online transaction processing,
LAN-free backup and high availability clustering. Since these application specific "SAN islands" are made up primarily of
servers and storage devices that are based on the FC-AL industry standard protocol, loop switching has rapidly emerged as an
ideal networking solution for building SAN islands. Accordingly, IDC projects ports within the loop switch category will
experience a compound annual growth rate higher than all other individual segments from 1999 to 2003. Based on a design
that is optimized for building SAN islands, Gadzoox' Capellix switch has captured a majority of 1999 ports within the loop
switching segment of the world wide hub and switch market, according to IDC(1).

As the deployment of SAN islands continues, businesses will be faced with the task of interconnecting these islands in order to
centralize storage management operations or to fortify their disaster tolerance capabilities with connections to remote sites.
To provide this connectivity along with the required inter-island services, such as routing and extended addressing, an
extension of the Fibre Channel protocol called fabric services was developed.

"By way of its modular architecture, the Gadzoox Capellix switch was designed to support the addition of new capabilities as
required by the evolving SAN market," said Dave Tang, Gadzoox Networks vice president of marketing. "To satisfy the
emerging need for inter-island connectivity, Capellix' unique design enables the integration of fabric services and loop
switching without compromise to its record setting performance and unmatched scalability."

Pricing and Availability

Fabric services for the Capellix 3000 modular switch is an add-on option with a suggested list price of $3,995. When fully
configured with fabric services, the Capellix 3000 offers combined loop and fabric switching for a per port cost starting at
$730. This represents a price per port savings of over 50% when compared to typical 16-port fabric switches(2). General
availability of the fabric services option for Capellix 3000 is expected within the current quarter.
