...all these people seem to have is power and influence in the courts and legislatures of the US ... well to defeat Castro they're going to have to build some influence in the hearts and minds of cubanos.

I've wondered what would happen if Castro shuffled off this mortal coil any time soon. I'd expect there would be turmoil, as I don't think Castro is grooming a successor a la Franco. Would the US intervene? Would the Cuban exiles try to go back? What kind of a reaction would they have from the locals? Cuba doesn't have a history of long-lasting democratic, representative government, so I'd expect another "strong man" to emerge sooner rather than later.
