Public policy was always one of my favorite subject areas. I loved the areas of criminal law where we argued about how laws influenced behavior- loved the same issues in torts, contracts and insurance too. I took a lot of insurance law, which was lucky since I wound up in insurance.

What did you like best in law school? My best subjects were evidence and family law, if I remember right. I was lucky to have Herma Hill Kay (who is the retiring dean of Berkeley) as my family law teacher. She was a very good teacher. Jesse Choper was dean of the lawschool when I was there- and he was my Constitutional law teacher. His class was wonderful. I had William Fletcher for Administrative law- another super class. I couldn't stand my civil procedure class- I don't know whether it was the teacher or the material. I hated it. Blech blech blech. I think that was the subject I hated most. And I took 3 years of tax law- civil procedure was FAR worse.
