Well, it's still pie in the sky and complex, but one thing ASICs and software are good at, is complex and fast and cheap.

I think the whole thing is a good idea for the reasons as discussed previously.

But it still has to be done and boring old CDMA has got a long way to go before it's replaced. No real threat to Q! but it could eventually be an enhancement.
