ted - The 172 million shares that you refer to includes diluted shares which I believe means optionable shares.

Toni@AMD replied to this question on another board (probably Raging Bull but I couldn't find it by searching) and the response was that is reflected both options and the convertible bonds. Since the bonds are now "in the money" they could be converted any time which would reduce AMD's debt and the need to pay 6% interest.

I don't believe AMD could legally split the stock even if there was a voice or ballot vote at the Annual Meeting. But I suspect they will announce that they will have a special meeting to do just that. They wouldn't even bother with a 3 for 2.

The only real question is, Will it be 2 for 1 or 3 for 1?
