Ausdauer, re: "Sony has stumbled badly.". If true, Sony is committing Hari Kari with respect to MP3.

IF there really is a "3-limit" to Sony's scheme and it locks the download to a single device, this flies in the face of "Universal USB" where any device can receive any file, whenever.

You only have to "p**s off" an end user once to lose him forever. Happy trails for good 'ol SNDK.
