But surely Intel does not want to kill AMD. Maim yes, kill no, otherwise they would receive the MSFT treatment from the US government.

Intel's Strategy must be to squeeze AMD out of the sectors of the market where Intel can make the most profit.

Dave,

suppose Intel cut prices on all of their PIIIs to $10 per unit. How many processors do you think AMD would sell then?

Last year, during the K6/PII wars, Intel dropped their low end prices down to the $50 dollar range, but the high end remained up around $600. There are a significant number of buyers who will pay for performance.
