I shouldn't have put it so starkly and callously, especially since anyone residing in the United States is entitled to due process of law, but in the main the Constitution, according to my limited understanding, has to do with protecting the rights of United States citizens against incursions of government power (as well as defining in general the structure and functions of the government). Looking at the markets, it may be that enough retirement-fund money is still being systematically chanelled into the market to keep values from subsiding.
