Italy has announced that it will also give preference to existing mobile service providers when it chooses IMT-2000 operators."

I wonder if something like this could come out of Japan as well.

the company forged ties with Bell Mobility of Canada and Omnitele of Finland

I noticed this as well. I just don't know what it means. Obviously, a big roaming pact between Canada, Finland, and Korea is probably not the main point. What is, then? What would these cos. be sharing with each other? R&D, track records, and such? Joint developments since they are not direct competitors in the same markets?

Sorry cant leap to the same conclusions....I've been reading the Korean Herald for the last nine months and I definitely wouldnt rely on them for accurate data.

A major attraction of the IMT-2000 is its faster speed. In early stages the IMT-2000 will support 384Kbps, as opposed to 144Kbps provided by IS-95C which will evolve from the current IS-95B, the difference in transmission speed will grow larger in later stages. For example, it is estimated that by 2005, IMT-2000 will provide 1Mbps.

Do you believe the above statement? Only 1Mbps by 2005?

I think that the huge press that SK Telecom gave the W-CDMA call with NTT Docomo was much more significant than the two articles that you just posted.

The real question is if Korea will mandate a single standard or if they will simply mandate "IMT-2000" and allow the individual operators to decide. Still havent figured that one out....

Getting the feeling we will see earnings better than the street expects tomorrow (around noon). More important will be the guidance looking forward.

Does anyone know of an english language conference call (on the web) for the company?

Market leaders in their respective industries are doing well well---ex. Corning and Nortel. Looking to see the same from Nokia.
