I recall that such firms' only obligation is to let you know, as you mentioned (via confirm) when they make a market in a particular stock (acting as agent or principal) or when releasing research on such. Such firms aren't bound - and certainly couldn't be bothered - or make available their house list. And, I certainly don't blame them. Besides, with the exception of a core group of two or three thousand stocks for large firms, many of the issues are picked up and dropped seasonally - mindful, of course, of the conditions and requirements for doing so.
