Andy, the cycle is in the third inning or so, or so our fearless leader Wilf keeps saying. Others like James Morgan of AMAT are saying similar things. I've even heard the year 2006 thrown out there recently as when any down might start. That's so far out that it's almost like saying things look good indefinitely. IMHO, we've got a long way to go, barring the unforeseen. I'm keeping a daily eye on good info sources like SI, all the same.

Tony

What I posted was just what I caught (meaning just the stuff that I was interested in), still anxiously the verbatim post from Jock. That should tell us a lot more.

I think LSI is cautious regarding the foundaries expanding so fast. In some ways, that's good - no over-exuburance this time I hope. I won't be surprised that in two years, the foundaries in Taiwan will take their first hit. They've never lost money so far in semis and probably think it's all cherries. Making DRAM fab fills is one thing, but trying to build SOCs is another. There are not that many customers who's got the IPs to contract for SOCs. With luck, we'll get into a situation of very low foundary prices but stable end product prices with the extra margins going to the guys with the IP.

This cc is the first time that they discussed actual revenues from CDMA. $200M in two years seem like a lot, but to me would not make a successful program for CDMA. Hopefully they can make up some grounds against QCOM within this year and can push that number up more. Too early to tell still, IMHO.

Andy, another opinion on the current semiconductor boom, from one of the gorillas (or at least kings), James Morgan of Applied Materials. Chip companies are looking good.

Yet another futures silicon sales opinion, post borrowed from the Compaq thread:

During the meeting, Chief Executive Craig Barlett declined to comment on any future capital spending, though
he said: ``I do have the sensation that the world has under-invested in silicon. We'll probably see strong
spending industry-wide through '00 and '01.''
