Gotta have rules.
A daily volume of at least 50,000 shs is a must. Most are traded on the NYSE. Some of the REITS that aren't listed and are sold by financial advisors are crap because you can't get out when you want to. There are several REITS that are real estate spin offs from other companies. Marriott Hotels spun the bricks and mortar off. Beverly Enterprises, nursing homes spun the facilities off also.
This is a good time to position because the sector is so out of favor. The returns in index funds have been so big that REITS and other dividend payers have suffered. However the index funds aren't doing that great this year so the REIT's are getting noticed.
