>>Or the need was not just buying the software but rather installing/upgrading current servers to the latest Novell OS<<

Just to clarify, yes this was an upgrade from a 100 user 4.10 server to a 25 user 5.1. Took a week after all the proper identification was supplied before a congratulatory call from Novell on being "approved" (yes, this was real popular with my husband) to buy. Apparently the upgrade path as Peter Strifas mentioned is more convoluted than simply buying the software for the first time. The time consuming checks are an attempt to prevent or circumvent the piracy of this software, they say. I sort of believe that veteran customers who want to continue purchasing are to be coddled, but that's just me.

BTW, it has been a few weeks and the software has not yet arrived. The sole two CNE's in the IT department are getting ragged about how you'd think this company would want to get NW5.1 into the hands of those who could really appreciate it.

Even so, the anticipation for the arrival of the first new Novell software bought here in something like two years or more is great. Just could have been a whole lot more pleasant experience. If it were not for the fact that my husband and the other CNE have lots of experience with both Netware and NT and they really do know the differences, and both want to get their hands on the newest and greatest from Novell, they would have given up before this. I do expect that once this thing arrives, most of this frustration will be forgotten.
