yesterday. REally nice guy. DG, said that Q will be making the w-CDMA chips too. He said that
ERICY is a big customer of docomo and has a loyal following. He doesnt understand why anyone
would go this way but he said if thats what they want Q will be selling those types of chips too. He
said there is no stardard yet to w-cdma and he is now presenting chips to some unknown standard to
try to define it. He said that ericy wants to be in the middle of the fray but either way q benefits with
the exact same royalty rates. He said that dont focus on only japan, but seems to think that japan is
confusing the world.thought also that hdr will leap frog w-cdma and then there will be no need to
even talk about w-cdma. ( my words: could be a delay tactic) he said since kyocera owns ddi (
partially) he still thinks that they wont go that way w-cdma, but that kyocera will help to steer them
in the right direction. he also said they have signed up partners already but not yet disclosed who
they are, to sign up for the spectrum and 3G license in japan. We did not even talk about ATT, which
is usually a topic of ours.
He said he can not find out one good reason to go w-cdma especially since its not great at all for
either talk or data, because the wide band gets a little sloppy, and talk/data doesnt work as well as
separating the band width. sa vas
