Did you hear JOe Kernan on CNBC the conference call was interpreted as guidance of 15% growth next quarter; so the stock sold off. But the company meant an additional 15% of growth on the current projected growth for the couple of quarters. That is why it shot up from 43 to 49. It really should be at $57-60.

The whisper number is merely a tool of bears to get the number so high, that it is unreasonable to ever meet it for most companies. So inevitably it drops after the earnings announcement. Meanwhile the game is to sell into the release, bloat the number with whispers ever higher, and cover the short after people are disappointed.
Look at INTC they had good numbers, beat expectations, but did not beat the "holy whisper number" crowned by whom might I ask? So, the stock gets knocked to 110 3/8! The longs sell because they believed this propaganda, the shorts are laughing to the bank. 2 days later, equilibrium sets in, and INTC is back at 125!
