With the poll #s running so big in favor of the action he's running for cover.
He could have used the opportunity to put some distance between himself and Trent Lott or Tom Delay. Those guys big profile remarks are going to hang on Jr. like an ancor.

One i'm curious to hear from on this is McCain ... he's relatively untainted for a politician and has a style i respect ... but he's in Viet Nam just now ... the rest of them are so predictable.
