Lab, no, it's not marginable with Etrade (or anyone else that I'm aware of). But it still makes a huge difference for people in danger of a margin call, since the overall equity portion of their portfolios has dropped considerably as a result of the "split." For those holding 100 shares, $44,000 of value has "disappeared" into the void. Can anyone tell me the rationale of doing it this way? Why would the company wait so long? Isn't there some law preventing this situation? It feels manipulated to me.
