FWIW, Washington Post reporting that the famous photo shows that the safety was on. I had read that this weekend on the Sunday London Times, but no one else reported it, so I thought the Brits just didn't understand American guns. I asked Chris to look at the photo, and he said there was a lever turned to "S" but he didn't know whether that was safety or semi-automatic. But I don't suppose the INS would be making the claim if it couldn't be verified by persons familiar with the weapon.

Chris just told me what the "sexual abuse" was. While the grandmothers were here, one of them pulled his pants down and said, "let's see if it's grown any." Not exactly sexual abuse, but it's pretty strange, by our standards.

I saw grandma describe what she did...her words translated to a humiliation. If that's the 'culture' in Cuba, I can see why Elian's Mother chose against that type of environment for Her Only Son.

What an awful thing to do to a child...

A Human Being who clung to life for 48 hours based on his mothers last breath, her dream for her sons Human Right to be his OWN person, his freedom...I wonder what Elian thought about for those two days of willing himself to stay alive...can any of us really imagine?

"...if his grandmother played with his penis every night...it wouldn't be relevant to asylum."

What?
