I am not reading all the looney stuff, just the national media, so I don't know where these allegations are coming from, but why are they being advanced now? Why not earlier, to INS, when they were trying to determine whether to return Elian to his father in January? Who is the person who says them? Does he or she have a name? I think serious allegations of abuse should be taken seriously, but the proper time and place to make them is not anonymously to the media. So, I will discount them, like the allegations that Elian's photos were doctored.
