Clearly, the gov't is overplaying their hand here. There is some justification for a remedy in light of MSFT's behavior, but it has nothing to do with the OS and applications business. It would not surprise me to see Penfield Jackson toss this remedy out and ask for a new proposal. My guess is that it's the work of the State AG's.

The "break-up" proposal also smacks of a pattern of "abuse of power" we've seen from this Justice Dep't over and over again.
