Intel helps push Linux in China with joint
technical support center

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Intel Corp. here is furthering its diversification away from
an all-microprocessor focus through a new Linux Technical Support Center in
China, jointly established with Bluepoint Linux Software Corp. of Los Angeles.

According to Yu Deng, president of Bluepoint, Intel will contribute technology and
equipment, and Bluepoint will deliver the management and staffing, and operate
the center.

The center, located in Shenzhen, will provide proof-of-concept (POC) consulting,
online support, training, and a call center. From the POC center, staff experts will
evaluate clients' business requirements and recommend the most suitable
software solution. The center will deliver services to integration providers, Linux
solution providers and end users.

Linux is an open-source operating system that is offered free by various providers
and customized to each customers' needs. Intel has come out in support of Linux
for its processors because of its ability to create Internet-ready applications (see
Feb. 2 story).

Bluepoint Linux Software claims to have developed the first "true Chinese"Linux
operating system, named Bluepoint, and controls approximately 80% of the
Chinese Linux bundling market. It is preinstalled by several major computer
manufacturers in China. The company is a leading provider of Linux solutions and
related services in the Chinese market. The company also develops Linux-based
embedded systems.

"The lack of reliable technical support and the lack of high-quality Linux solutions
that meet the need of the Chinese market have been a bottleneck in the Linux
development in China," said Deng. "Bluepoint founders have been paying close
attention to the technical support problem. We are confident that, with the support
from Intel, the Bluepoint's Linux Technical Support will help to push the Linux
development in China to new levels." GO LNUX!
