Eric L: Chuckle. Must admit I enjoyed your answer thoroughly and learned from it as I always do from you. But isn't your classification just a tad slanted when you include a bastard version (pardon me, "non standard") of "WCDMA" from DoCoMo as compliant with 3rd gen and exclude anything at all which can be used on current frequencies? What kind of fun and games is that? And you accuse others of FUD? Hey, come on now. Seriously, have the Europeans and Japanese managed to get through some or all of the standard bodies you monitor a definition for 3rd gen which excludes anything Qualcomm puts forth because it not only will fit into the new "wideband" spectrum yet to be available and will also work in current frequencies? What a travesty ! But I will accept your word of course. Do I understand that right? 1XRTT and 3XRTT (both the first and second stages of CDMA 2000) are not 3rd gen? What is MC which is within the standards? Aren't CDMA 2000 and MC different labels for the same technology or am I missing something (very possible of course in this convoluted situation). Appreciate clarification - just find it a tad mindboggling. What ever happened to a "rose by any other name...." or are we in the situation where the line in the poem "a rose is a rose is a rose is a rose..." should read "a rose is not a rose because it may fit a current frequency and only roses which don't are roses" What a world !
