Roger,

I concur.

I started to answer earlier, but decided to wait for a more educated answer.

I believe the wash rule only counts when you sell at a loss and buy back low attempting to claim the loss of equity for tax purposes. But, I ain't an accoutant. (sic)

Roger- What do you think about EBAY? I have never shorted a stock but it seems to be ripe. My question is, if you have 10000 dollars in an account, how much can you short? And if you short and the stock goes up a couple of points, how long do you have until your broker tries to force you to cover the short at a loss? Thanks!

To Roger Babb or thread:

It has been my experience, and frustration, that brokerage firms don't pay interest on cash proceeds generated from short sales. Instead the cash remains frozen in the account, becoming a sterile asset and an interest free loan to the broker.

Do you know of brokers that do pay interest, or -- failing that, permit the short seller to invest the money in MM funds or T-bills?

I'd like to short FRTL, but I cant even get a quote on it from YHOO.

Their eBiz claims reek of fraud<g>.
