IMO, the answer is in taking back our Presidential politics from the power brokers. We cannot allow political bosses to force feed Presidential cadidates to us. When we allow this to happen we defeat the very essence of our democratic process. As long as the Bush's and Gore's of the world are our choices we will never see improvement. I believe the beginning of the end of the Republican party happened during the primaries. The party is fracturing into far-right social policy agenda oriented conservatives and fiscal conservatives. I predict the later group will merge with the reform party and this will become the 'new' Republican party with John McCain as its leader. The far right will form their own party that will support their social politics, or simply fade into oblivion.
