Ron: I am pretty familiar with Russian history, present day China and Japan. I have trouble seeing China as similar to Japan or Russia. I am not easily able to go into detail for my own reasons, but suffice it to say, China is unlike any other place I can think of, and I would not feel comfortable underestimating their ability to create something worthwhile -- and of course i would not under-estimate the enormity of the challenges they face during this transition. As for their system of government, the transition cannot be effected easily -- there is no easy way. The size and the complexity of the country is considerable. If you have ever had the misfortune to be in a place where there is NO government, almost any form of order starts to show some appeal. My point is, don't lump China in with other countries -- at least that is my opinion.
