Maybe in some ways. But we saw the Japanese govt just last fall take on Billions of dollars in debt to spur economic growth (priming the pump), but wasting it on non-profit producing projects. They are directing where that money will be spent instead of creating the conditions where private industry makes the choices. Still a "top-down" governmentally controlled economy posing as capitalism.

We have a personal debt base that is the highest in history. we have PE's that can't be computed due to future growth that can not be met for years. We targeted rates and made loans easy for us when Japan started to fall apart at the seams. Japan lived on export and we live on import.

Japan's bubble popped but the blow was minimal due to the mind set of the people. I have no idea exactly what would happen if we suffered such a fate in this time period with the mind set that we have been in.

i keep thinking this is a very new accounting economy. It use to be you purchased a company outright upon approval of share holders. Now you could invest in kazoo who had bought shares lazoo who just might have bought shares in kaboom. All see the future but it is a little more complicated as no one has a solid base. Can you stop an avalanche no it has to run it own course.

I think we and Japan are at opposite ends of the scale they were filled with fear we are filled with future is anybody realistic?

I agree solid corporate growth is the best solution . Yet the Media is corporate and they have been promoting and demoting at will. The question then becomes can corporate become so large that it is governs?

Elian Gonzalez a subject i stay away from.

Respect

<<Debt is nothing more than spending now what you expect to earn tomorrow. >>

You might well add "& paying dearly for the privilege"

Debt is both prison and executioner.

"minus the current govt BS over Elian Gonzalez"

Ah so - the merits of the great America over the rights of a father? Does your zenophobia know no bounds, or have you never had a child of your own?
