Steven,

My theory: video game industry is at its infancy and its technology is superior the entire tech industry.

Look for 100% growth in these stocks in the next 9 months.

Where are you, Steven? It sounds like those folks have a healthier appreciation for the body and less neurotic hangups regarding sex than the general population of the US.

Where do you come up with 'molestation'...?

"I think intent is an essential component of molestation."

What you may consider to be 'small indignities' aren't always so small to the little kids that are forced to endure them.

Respecting a child's body can make all the difference in his or her well-being and overall long term development.

IMO, what grandma described and apparently did was the type of abuse that often leads to 'molestation'.

While describing the behavior to the national media, Grandma laughed...the intent to humiliate was evidenced there...no question.

I suppose it is particularly advantageous for a society, which requires all 'members' to subjugate themselves to a 'dictatorship', to humiliate the male children as part of the 'culture'.

It would be 'beneficial' to teach them that they do not 'belong' to themselves...and to demonstrate to them, [through what amounts to sexual humiliation and exploitation], that they are valued by the society in terms of their 'reproductive potential'...a destructive, myopic practice, imo.

Provencial Grandma's behavior was abusive.

I'm sure that Elian's Mother wanted to remove that destructive influence...She wanted him to have self-respect and self-esteem.

She hoped to give Elian Liberty.

She gave Her life for Elian's Liberty.

Elian earned his Liberty...all by Himself...it cannot be taken away from him now...or EVER, no matter where he is, he has earned his Freedom.

Thanks again, I am sure that context is important in these matters, and it makes more sense to me as you describe it....

True, for sexual abuse to occur there must be the intent to sexually gratify yourself or others. One reason little boys don't have much granny-penis touching here in the USA is that circumcision is the norm, which it isn't in Latin countries. Boys with foreskins need to clean under them, at least after the foreskin separates. Still, if the incident did occur during the brief US visit, it seems like she would have had more important things to talk about.
