Frederick- The Register is sometimes a little weak on accuracy. Late last year they posted that Intel was going to release the Willamette processor December 1999 to counter AMD's Athlon.

According to Microsoft's Proxy Statement of September 1999, Paul Allen held 260,723,896 shares.

It's unlikely that the Register's 50k shares remaining is correct. Paul still has plenty more shares to sell.

It's interesting that Steve Ballmer held almost as many shares (239,626,854). He should be the second largest holder of MSFT by now. When Steve starts selling I'd be worried.

Paul Allen nearly divested of M$ stock

Well, I guess that's one source of stock that's now out of the way.
