Sun Microsystems Builds Momentum With Oracle Applications Customers Sun Servers
Powered by the Solaris Operating Environment Prove To Be a Leading Platform for
Oracle's E-Business Suite

PHILADELPHIA, April 26, Ora 0, 2000 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Sun
Microsystems, Inc. (Nasdaq: SUNW) today announced at Oracle's Spring 2000
conference that sales momentum has been growing in the past six months for
Web-based Oracle(R) Applications sold on Sun(TM) platforms. Sun's Solaris(TM)
Operating Environment has proven to be the ideal Oracle Applications deployment
platform for companies ranging from small dot-coms to the world's largest
enterprises. Recent customers include online retailers Chipshot.com,
DrugEmporium.com, GreatEntertaining.com and Miadora. Other recent customers
include Dartmouth College, Insight Enterprises, MedicaLogic, SubmitOrder.com,
and Toshiba America Electronic Components.

"The huge demand for Sun and Oracle joint solutions is being driven by the
explosive growth in the demand for web delivered best-of-breed ERP, e-commerce
and CRM solutions," said Doug Kaewert, vice president market development, Sun
Microsystems. "Our customers benefit from the close field and engineering
collaboration between Oracle and Sun and the widely accepted vision for the Net
Economy. We will continue to work together to deliver the industry-leading
network computing infrastructures and applications."

"Sun is a leading platform for us as we refocus our business upon the rapidly
emerging e-business marketplace," said Juan Jones, vice president, Sun Business
Unit, Oracle. "Oracle and Sun continue to invest in development and customer
support initiatives to help ensure that our joint platform delivers the
performance and scalability our customers demand. As a result, we are
well-positioned to lead the e-business marketplace for which our platform is
ideally suited to deliver the high levels of service required to maximize
customer satisfaction."

American Saw & Manufacturing, for example, is building its e-commerce strategy
on the Sun and Oracle platform. A manufacturer of cutting tools based in East
Longmeadow, Mass., American Saw markets and sells its products in 75 countries
worldwide. After conducting a complete assessment of its business infrastructure
and business process needs, American Saw chose Oracle Financial and
Manufacturing Applications because of the unique just-in-time manufacturing
capabilities provided by the Flow Manufacturing module.

To build the best IT infrastructure to support the Oracle Applications and to
pave the way for future e-commerce initiatives, American Saw chose Sun servers
and storage devices over all major competitive platforms for their scalability
and robust network computing capabilities.

"We purchased Oracle, and then my challenge was to create an infrastructure
capable of supporting that," said CIO Shawn Knox. "The first question I asked
was, 'What does Oracle develop on?' The answer is Sun. When I asked what the
number-one installed base was for companies running Oracle Manufacturing, it's
Sun. When we started looking at the capabilities of Sun's integrators and the
scalability of the environments -- and what we were looking to accomplish in
terms of high availability -- Sun was resoundingly the direction to go in."

"For us, this is really the foundation for preparing American Saw to participate
in e-commerce. With Sun and with Oracle, we believe we partner with two of the
best companies that position us to do whatever we want to do," Knox added.

Oracle On Sun Meets Dot-Com Customer Needs

The Sun platform continues to be the clear platform of choice for companies that
must successfully manage the explosive growth of e-commerce in order to be
competitive in the marketplace.

"To satisfy an increasing online demand for our golfing products and to ensure
the highest level of customer satisfaction, we needed a robust enterprise
network computing platform that could handle our e-business IT requirements from
front to back office on a 24x7x52 basis," says Rajeev Goel, CTO, Chipshot.com.
"After thoroughly evaluating several leading computing platforms, we found that
Sun Microsystems and Oracle met our needs. Sun's Enterprise servers and StorEdge
storage devices provided the most scalable and reliable platform for the Oracle
database and E-Business Suite applications we selected. Sun's educational,
professional and support services also helped to ensure that we got the
mission-critical Sun and Oracle installation up and running on budget and on
time."

SubmitOrder.com is running customized Oracle Order Management software on the
Sun platform, which includes two Sun Enterprise(TM) 10000 (also known as
Starfire(TM)) servers to achieve reliability and accuracy in order processing.

"This is critical to the success of our customer response and fulfillment
process because we can't afford to lose a single transaction," said Phil
Pointer, senior director of development, SubmitOrder.com. "This is a very
retail-oriented business and we run on a retail calendar, which means there are
two seasons: Christmas -- and everything else. Our goal this year is to build
capacity to process up to 10,000 orders per hour out of the warehouse, or a
half-million orders per day. One of the crowning achievements of the Oracle
Order Management application on the reliable and scalable Sun platform is that
it provides demand chain transparency and is real-time."

All transactions instantaneously go into the company's order management system
and are automatically processed and forwarded down to its warehouse management
system. As soon as the orders have been picked, packed, personalized and shipped
out the door, shipping confirmations immediately go back to the client Web site,
enabling the Web site's customers to get their shipping confirmations online --
a requirement in today's online, real-time e-commerce marketplace.

Using What It Sells ...

Key to the success of their ongoing joint-development efforts, Oracle and Sun
are heavy users of each other's technologies. Sun is a preferred systems vendor
for Oracle's internal e-business applications and deployment. Oracle leverages
Sun network computing platforms to conduct all customer demonstrations of its
industry-leading E-Business Suite. Additionally, twelve Sun Enterprise 4500
servers at the company's headquarters in Redwood Shores, CA, deliver highly
effective demonstrations to any prospect office anywhere in the world. Sun also
runs its business on Oracle -- utilizing Oracle Applications extensively
internally in one of the world's largest Oracle installations.

Sun Powers Oracle Business OnLine Datacenter Infrastructure

Sun has worked with Oracle Business OnLine since its inception to provide a
world-class ASP environment for delivery of Oracle applications. Together, Sun
and Oracle provide one-stop Web-enabled enterprise solutions for dot-coms, as
well as traditional companies. Sun provides the Oracle Business OnLine data
center infrastructure with Sun Enterprise Servers, Sun StorEdge(TM) Arrays,
along with Solaris Operating Environment software and Solstice FireWall-1(TM)
software for network security. Some of Oracle's recent Oracle Business OnLine
customers include CAT Technology, Cygent and Gold Coast Restaurants,

"BOL has revolutionized the way that companies implement and reap the business
benefits of Web-enabled enterprise applications," says Terry Rollo, vice
president of Sales & Marketing, Oracle Business OnLine. "Sun's scalable hardware
and network infrastructure provide a solid foundation that delivers the high
service levels demanded by our growing Oracle Business OnLine customer base."

I saw the article. I copied it for my husband. We need two new computers at home. As for his poor office PC, it had to be shipped out for repairs, but when it comes back he will install Solaris 8 unless the repair people install it for him. He's had hardware problems with his office PC.

Cheers,

Mephisto
