However, Monty doesn't think the spinoff will undermine Nortel's stock price if BCE shareholders decide to sell their newly-acquired Nortel shares. Nortel's strong earnings performance for the first quarter should generate buying interest to help soak up the supply. In addition, U.S. institutional interest in the stock should increase after the spinoff because Nortel's public float will increase. The
greater the float, the more assurance big investors have that they can get in or out of a stock quickly and without unduly moving the stock price.
